Plymouth City Council has said it is ramping up its cyber security measures to guard against increasing threats.

The council said it was introducing stricter computer protocols, including locking users out of their systems if they fail to update their devices within 30 days, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Every Pandora customer has received an email after three key pieces of data were stolen by hackers.

It reported that the attacker had accessed the information through a third-party platform that it uses.

Facial recognition tech mistook me for wanted man

A man who is bringing a High Court challenge against the Metropolitan Police after live facial recognition technology wrongly identified him as a suspect has described it as “stop and search on steroids”.

Shaun Thompson, 39, was stopped by police in February last year outside London Bridge Tube station.

Guilty: Police conduct investigator fined after unlawfully obtaining sensitive case details

An investigator for the police complaints watchdog has pleaded guilty to unlawfully obtaining sensitive personal data.

Mohammed Ejaz, 42, from Bradford worked for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is responsible for investigating the most serious complaints and conduct matters involving the police. This includes cases where there is an indication that police contact (direct or indirect) may have caused or contributed to a death.

Bradford man sentenced for possessing firearms manuals 

A 21-year-old-man from Bradford has today (August 1) been jailed after he admitted possessing terrorist documents. 

Ondrej Sidelka (16/02/2004) of Elwyn Road, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court on April 11 to eight counts of possessing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

A man armed with a machete who assaulted members of the public has been sentenced 

Jamal Walker-Bailey (26/5/99), of Burford Road, Whalley Range, was found guilty of two counts of attempted GBH after a trial at Manchester Crown Court that ended on Friday 1 August 2025. 

He earlier pleaded guilty to affray, possession of a bladed article and possession with intent to supply cannabis but was cleared of assaulting a police officer. 

Today (Monday 4 August 2025), he was sentenced to eight years in prison at the same court. Walker-Bailey will serve an additional one year on license.

Statement on Palestine Action 

Since the proscription of Palestine Action on 5th July 2025 a significant number of arrests have been made by UK policing for suspected offences under the Terrorism Act. 

As of today (7th August) 10 people have been charged, with further investigations being progressed through the criminal justice system. 

Counter Terrorism Policing and forces across the country are working right across the system to reach effective and appropriate outcomes in these cases.

Girl, 16, and two teenage boys arrested on suspicion of murder in Kent 

Three teenagers have been arrested over the murder of a man at a seaside resort. 

Kent Police said the man in his 40s died after being attacked on the Isle of Sheppey at around 7pm on Sunday. 

Two boys aged 14 and 15 and a 16-year-old girl are being questioned after the altercation in the Warden Bay Road area of the Leysdown-on-Sea resort.
