Course Outline
The ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor course spans four days, providing a structured approach to mastering AI management system audits. Day 1 introduces participants to the fundamentals of an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) and the ISO/IEC 42001 standard, laying the foundation for effective auditing. Day 2 focuses on audit principles and the preparation and initiation of an audit, equipping participants with the skills to plan and organise audit activities systematically.
Day 3 covers on-site audit activities, providing hands-on experience in conducting audits, gathering evidence, and assessing compliance with ISO/IEC 42001 requirements. Day 4 addresses the closing of the audit, including reporting findings, communicating results to stakeholders, and recommending corrective actions. On completion of the 4 day course, learners can book their online certification exam, where participants demonstrate their competence and readiness to perform ISO/IEC 42001 audits professionally.
Prerequisites
The main requirement for participating in this training course is having a fundamental understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 and AI principles and concepts.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor course, participants will be able to explain the fundamental concepts and principles of an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) based on ISO/IEC 42001. They will gain the knowledge needed to interpret the standard’s requirements from the perspective of an auditor. General Information
The ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor course includes certification and examination fees in the price of the training, ensuring participants have full access to all required assessments. Participants will receive comprehensive training materials comprising over 450 pages of detailed information, practical examples, best practices, exercises, and quizzes to support effective learning. An attestation of course completion worth 31 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits will be awarded to participants who attend the full training course. Candidates who do not pass the exam on their first attempt are eligible to retake it free of charge within 12 months from the initial exam date.

Examination & Certification
The “PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor” exam is fully aligned with the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP) requirements. It assesses candidates across seven competency domains, including the fundamental principles and concepts of an AI management system, AI management system requirements, audit concepts and principles, and all phases of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit—from preparation and conducting to closing and managing an audit program. Upon successfully passing the exam, candidates can apply for one of several PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor credentials. The certificate will be issued once all requirements for the chosen credential are met.
The certification levels and their requirements are as follows: PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Provisional Auditor: No prior experience required; signing the PECB Code of Ethics is mandatory. PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor: Requires two years of professional experience, including at least one year in AI, and 200 hours of audit activities. PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor: Requires five years of professional experience, including two years in AI, and 300 hours of audit activities. PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Auditor: Requires ten years of professional experience, including seven years in AI, and 1,000 hours of audit activities. To be considered valid, audit activities must follow best practices and include planning audits, managing audit programs, drafting audit reports and nonconformity reports, preparing audit working documents, reviewing and managing documented information, conducting on-site audits, following up on nonconformities, and leading audit teams.
