Italy enacts AI law covering privacy, oversight and child access
ROME, Sept 17 (Reuters) – Italy’s parliament on Wednesday approved a new law covering artificial intelligence, making it the first European Union country with comprehensive AI regulations aligned with the EU’s landmark AI Act.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government spearheaded the legislation saying it establishes human-centric, transparent and safe AI use as core principles while emphasising innovation, cybersecurity and privacy protections.

Some JLR suppliers ‘face bankruptcy’ due to hack crisis
The past two weeks have been dreadful for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and the crisis at the car maker shows no sign of coming to an end.
A cyber attack, which first came to light on 1 September, forced the manufacturer to shut down its computer systems and close production lines worldwide.
Its factories in Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton are expected to remain idle until at least Wednesday, as the company continues to assess the damage.

The British government’s much-delayed Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (CSRB) has been delayed again, according to sources with knowledge of the parliamentary schedule.
It is the latest in a series of hindrances for the update of Britain’s cybersecurity regulations despite the main provisions being finalized three years ago, potentially contributing to further disruptive attacks.

AI Act, ePrivacy Directive included in European Commission’s consultation on digital simplification
The European Commission has its sights set on easing certain digital regulatory burdens on businesses, and the landmark Artificial Intelligence Act will be included in the endeavour. According to a new public consultation on the Commission’s omnibus proposal for digital simplification, an effort will be made to “ensure the optimal application” of AI Act rules that took force 2 Aug.

Patient’s picture was shared ‘mistakenly’ on WhatsApp, HSE data protection log shows
A picture of a patient “inadvertently” shared to a private WhatsApp group, screening slides lost by a contractor as well as “misplaced” medical records were among data protection breaches at the HSE last year.
There were 624 data protection breaches notified at the health service last year, according to an anonymised log obtained by The Irish Times under the Freedom of Information Act.

Convicted terrorist from Maidenhead guilty of making threats to kill
A convicted terrorist with an extreme right-wing ideology has today (16/9) been found guilty of making threats to kill prison and probation staff ahead of his release.
Following a trial at Oxford Crown Court, Nicholas Brock, formerly of Lancaster Road, Maidenhead, was convicted by jury of two counts of making threats to kill.
The court heard an investigation began into Brock, a 57-year-old who was serving a prison sentence at HMP Bullingdon in Bicester, led by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE).

Man jailed for breaching conditions of release from prison
A 35-year-old man has been jailed for breaching conditions of his release from prison after serving a sentence for terrorism offences.
Ismael Watson was arrested in London in September 2024 after failing to comply with his notification requirements which were in place when he was released after serving a five year sentence.
Watson had been convicted in 2017 for attempting to enter Syria to fight with Islamic State in 2016.As he attempted to cross the border from Turkey into Syria, he was detained by Turkish authorities and deported to the UK.

Family Jailed for Disseminating Terrorist Material and Racial Hatred through Neo-Nazi Music
Three members of the same family have today (September 11) been jailed for more than seven years after being found guilty of racial hatred and terrorism offences by creating, performing and distributing neo-Nazi music.
Robert Talland, 59, his son Stephen, 36, and daughter Rosie, 33, all from Essex, were found guilty in June of multiple charges of stirring up racial hatred following a nine-week trial at Woolwich Crown Court. Robert was also found guilty of two offences of disseminating terrorist material.
CTP North East – Investigation Update
Four men, arrested as part of an ongoing investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, have been released without charge.
The men, from Leeds, Huddersfield, Derby and London, were arrested on September 5, on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The pre-planned, intelligence led operation saw searches conducted at properties in Leeds, Huddersfield, Derby, West Bromwich and Hounslow.
